Guide: It was reported on the website of tehrantimes on December 21 that, according to Iranian media reports, Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shuerjinov said that his country was eager to cooperate with Iran to manufacture gas turbines for its power plants.
In a statement on Tuesday, Shuerjinov said that Russian companies are interested in cooperating with their Iranian counterparts on gas turbine technology and joint production.
"There is great potential for cooperation in this field," he said to Ali Akbar Mehrabian, Iran's visiting energy minister.
According to the agreement signed in October, Iran promised to provide 40 gas turbines to Russia to help the country build a modern gas power plant.
However, after the United States and its allies imposed sanctions on Russia for Russia's special military action in Ukraine earlier this year, the Russians accelerated their plan to start their own gas turbine production.
At the same time, due to western sanctions, major international gas turbine manufacturers, including Siemens Energy, are planning to withdraw from the Russian market.
Russia and Iran are increasingly cooperating in their efforts to combat US sanctions. The two countries have signed major agreements to carry out joint energy projects.
The Iranian authorities announced in May that Iran could supply auto parts and gas turbines to Russia under barter arrangements, which would allow Iran to import Russian steel.
Some Iranian companies have also signed agreements for the supply or maintenance of gas turbines for Russian power plants.
