Guide: Reuters reported on December 26 that Power Machines, the Russian power equipment manufacturer, said that it had completed the assembly and testing of its first domestic high-power gas turbine in Russia, aiming to replace the gas turbine equipment that could not be obtained due to Western sanctions.
Siemens Gas Turbines Embargoed in Russia Due to Sanctions
According to a statement, Power Machinery Co., Ltd. plans to produce 8 170MW gas turbines annually by 2025, and will increase the capacity to 12 in the following years, and ensure the maintenance of gas turbines, including the maintenance of imported gas turbines.
Power Machinery Company said in the statement that the first customers will be Russian oil company Tatneft, national energy holding company InterRAO and electric power company Rushhydro.
For many years, Russia has been trying to start producing its own medium and large power gas turbines for power plants. Now it has to accelerate this process, because since Moscow sent tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine on February 24, it has become more difficult for Russia to import and maintain gas turbine equipment, and the West has responded with unprecedented sanctions.
Previously, gas turbines of Siemens Energy, General Electric and Alstom were largely used to build modern natural gas power plants in Russia, but now they either exit the Russian market or have suspended operations.
In addition to the Power Machinery Company, UEC, a Russian state-owned company, also said that it planned to produce two high-power gas turbines annually by 2023 and four by 2025. Not long ago, there were news reports that Russia also planned to cooperate with Iran to produce medium and small power gas turbines.
Alexander Konyukhov, head of Power Machinery Company, said: "The powerful gas turbine assembled and tested in our test facility is a living proof that we are on the right track, and our goal will be achieved: Russia will have its own gas turbine, will have its own technology, and will be fully localized."
